sock monkey love

There are times when my yeast-free diet bugs me (to put it lightly), but then there are other times, like right now, when my taste buds are happy. Johnny grilled an impressive amount of chicken (and other meats) before he left for the week - it makes for easy dining. Today, I took one of those chicken breasts out of the fridge, cut it up, and placed it on a large bed of organic greens & chopped green bell pepper. I doused the salad with olive oil and man, what a meal. I really love olive oil. And bell peppers. And hummus. Walnuts. Black olives. Salmon. Prosciutto. Natural hot dogs. Brown mustard. Garlic. Cherry (or grape) tomatoes. Asparagus. Refried black beans. Taro chips. Sugar snap peas. Brown eggs. Rooibos tea. Coconut cream (and c. milk). See? I'm not always deprived.

That's a completely random opening for you.... What I really want to blog about is sock monkeys. I don't know what it is with me and sock monkeys, but they make me very happy (I'm even wearing my sock monkey slippers right now). Yesterday, I forgot to mention that after my Wednesday errands, I stopped by the Hobby Lobby near our house. My intention was to find a small summer-y rubber stamp for snail mail correspondence. Such images are always hit or miss; I'm kinda picky about rubber stamps. And alas, Hobby Lobby's selection sucked.

That's OK. Look at this sock monkey hand carved rubber stamp I found in the Etsy shop, Craft Pudding:

Yes ma'am (or sir), I ordered one in a flash, except my monkey will sport buttons instead of a heart. If you're expecting a thank you note or letter from me (and many of you are), you can expect to see that little guy on your letter, card, or envelope. Now I just need to revisit Hobby Lobby for brick red or brown ink. Or navy blue (I only have black and green).

In other unrelated news, All the Real Girls was a good film, too. It moved a tad slow here and there, but overall I found it funny, beautiful, and poetic. Paul Schneider gave a hilarious and sweet performance. A younger Zooey did a great job as well, of course. So did Patricia Clarkson - love her, and she is gorgeous. Set in small town North Carolina, certain visual details reminded me of Flannery O'Connor's writing; always a plus. Babette's Feast is up tonight which I hear I'm bound to love. I've decided a stack of good movies is essential when Johnny is drumming out-of-town.

Oh - I don't know if you noticed, but all the sudden my paragraphs are very scrunched up here. It was not my doing; you can thank Blogger for that. Johnny is studying the HTML code and we hope to fix it, but I can't make any promises. I hope it won't keep you from reading?

hey! i had that same problem with a similar layout awhile back. . . paragraphs all scrunched up. I switched layouts because of it. I actually just switched back to my original lay out and now it works. . . weird!

hey, I think I know how to fix it, but for now I'm going to have to keep you in suspense. xo

Why the suspense?! You're killing me. Do you also know why IMDB.com is not working?

jenni said...

And Laura - weird!

Nicole - Never mind about IMDB.com. It decided to behave. But you better 'fess up about my scrunched paragraphs! Please.

sorry! when you log into blogger, try going to 'settings', 'formatting', and then scroll down to 'convert line breaks' and see if fiddling with that does anything. I'm not sure if it will, though. It may just be the font. as you can see, my site looks the same.

p.s. I'm glad you're enjoying joan thus far. I went through her collected works a few months ago; so great.

Thanks, Nicole! I'll try it, but it did this before I changed my font, too. We shall see.

Just for the record, that did not work, but I do appreciate the tip.

I'm a dummy! hey, where do you buy coconut milk? I'm doing a 'body cleanse' and c. milk would be good for that.

I wish blogger would allow us dummies to be able to edit their comments, even after submitting. what I meant was, I will be doing a body cleanse and had read that c. milk would be nice and easy on my system.

You're not a dummy; I'm beginning to think Blogger is. We usually pick up coconut milk at Whole Foods, but I believe our local grocery store carries it, too. It's very yummy in tea (and Thai dishes)....

yeah, I usually see it canned at the oriental markets, and I rarely - if ever - cook with it (I never choose those dishes, I suppose). just wondered if you bought it another way. I have never tried it in tea, though. I might need to. thanks!

I can have turkey sausage, but no cheese. However, we found a good brand of turkey sausage that I love.

What did you think of Babette's Feast? I recently watched Sweet Land and am fascinated by these protestant communities observing severe religious codes and what results when their rigid ways are challenged.

I adored both Babette's Feast and Sweet Land. In Babette's Feast, I took away many things, but one is that legalism is pretty fragile, and false. We are to obey the Law for sure, but within those boundaries is the freedom of Christ ~ as beautiful as that decadent feast. And, that I miss drinking wine A LOT.
