grumpy

Wow. We did not sleep well at all last night. I haven't had insomnia like that in a long time and I assure you, it was due to evil yeast toxins. I know this because the past two days I channeled my Strother-stubbornness (my maiden name) and upped the antifungal medication. I tolerated it very well until nightfall. We were nice and sleepy at first, my saint-husband rubbed my back, and I was this close to slumber, but then my neck started hurting. Very painful. Did you know that yeast toxins love to hide out in your neck and shoulders? Oh, yes. So Johnny rubbed my neck. And yet, though I was oh so drowsy, I could not fall asleep. I hear that detox can also cause insomnia. You don't say. Therefore, Johnny could not fall asleep. However, Harley had no problem. He slept like a rock, purring sweetly between us, once stretched out back-to-back with me.

I thought I recalled that the Bible says we ought to pray when we find ourselves staring at a darkened ceiling. I did that for awhile. But as the hours rolled on, I acted less saintly. Finally, at 5:00 am, I lost it. I grabbed my glasses and The Sun from the living room, turned on the bedside lamp, and read part of the Readers Write section about porches. I love porches. Those very short essays lulled me to sleep, thank God. Johnny was snoring softly by then, too. I was reading the September '08 issue, but I should've picked up the August '08 issue - the Readers Write topic was "Up All Night."

I would have slept in ridiculously late, but I have to take morning meds by 9:00 am. I set my cell phone alarm for 8:30, but my Dad texted me at 8:00. I fell back asleep 'til 9:00, then thought, "Oh, hell. Meds can wait." Harley didn't think so. He perched on our headboard at 9:30 and meowed, "GET UP! I'm hungry." Fine. I forced myself out of bed, swallowed the meds, brewed tea for dear life, and now I'm operating in a foggy, exhausted haze. My neck still hurts. Having to use a heating pad during a Houston summer is just wrong.

Needless to say, our thrift store plans will have to wait until tomorrow or Friday or so (I'm finding that planning is pretty futile these days). We both need to take it easy. Today, we will NAP. I'll do my best to focus on reading for my next Curator article. My health has not cooperated with this article very well, but do not worry dear editor. Sometimes I write best at the last minute.

Like that one time in college (in Austin).... The assignment: write an imaginary travel diary spanning several days. The night before it was due, I wrote 90% of my journal entries in a black & white composition book, as if I traveled to Tibet. I was mortified by my writing though I knew it was my own fault; I'm infamous for procrastination. I turned in my assignment, very ashamed. The following week, the professor decided to read her favorite travel diary aloud. I recognized the first few words of my Tibetan perspectives and slid as far down in my seat as possible. I'm thankful she loved it, but 1 - I didn't deserve it, and 2 - I don't like to be the center of attention. I blush profusely.

I'm not running quite so late in regards to the Curator article. It's not due until the end of next week, but I do hope my health will get with the program. At least my brain. So I'll do some reading and note-taking today. And hopefully prepare a few snail mail packages to ship out tomorrow. Seriously, how cute is my sock monkey stamp? Though I'm grumpy, that little guy is making me smile. I hope he cheers the recipients, too.

LOL to Johnny's post...

I'm impressed you wrote such a coherent (and funny) post with barely any sleep!

Well, if the yeasties don't want to let you write, you know who to talk to. :D

I agree with MOCHA's comment, you write amazingly well with little, to no, sleep!

I hear ya' on having to use a heating pad in Houston's heat! I've got one resting on my shoulders right now and it's just wrong!

I feel (and know) your pain. My daughter had a pretty sleepless night as well, felt awful all day, but had to go to play practice tonight. Praying you'll have a better night tonight.
