2007 TBR Challenge

Thanks to a Shelfari friend, Andi, I discovered MizBook's 2007 TBR (to be read) Challenge! Pick twelve books that you've been meaning to read for six months or more, read one for each month of 2007, and you might win a prize from MizB. Harmless! I read all the time anyway.

Here is my list:
1. A Poetry Handbook by Mary Oliver
2. Terms of Endearment by Larry McMurtry
3. All Over but the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg
4. The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene
5. Silence by Shusaku Endo
6. Son of Laughter by Frederick Buechner
7. My Antonia by Willa Cather
8. A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf
9. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
10. For the Time Being by Annie Dillard
11. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
12. Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis

Extra credit (very possibly in my TBR pile less than 6 months):
Snow by Orhan Pamuk
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser
A Field Guide to Getting Lost Rebecca Solnit
A Sudden Country by Karen Fisher
Beasts of No Nation by Uzodinma Iweala
How Should We Then Live? by Francis Schaeffer (currently reading this in an online book club)
There Is No Me Without You by Melissa Fay Greene

...And maybe even more depending on what I accomplish during writing time upon which I desperately need to focus. Join the TBR Challenge! I will tuck one of the 12 in my bag as we drive to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary tomorrow. We will spend one night in Gruene after our annual pilgrimage to The Gruene Apple, and the following night in Austin after our new annual journey to Hotel San Jose; plus lunch with John's sister Beckye's family and an evening feast at Ararat with Aunt Denise.

I almost forgot to mention my good mail day! I received Allison's kindly bestowed extra copy of McSweeney's #21, Image journal #52, and the Jan./Feb. 2007 American Poetry Review. I will pack one of those as well. Obviously I just want to relax with my husband, but we usually find reading time wherever we go as avid readers are known to do. Not to mention The Gruene Apple has a charming library downstairs, and our room has a quiet, rustic balcony.

Jenni,
Happy 4th anniversary! :) I join with you in celebration of your wonderful marriage.

I've been wanting to read One Hundred Years of Solitude, as well as his other books. Let me know how it is!

Good luck with the challenge! I just finished my first and will be jumping into the next soon enough. I have signed up for three challenges and was tempted with 2 more but since this is my first time doing something like this decided to see if I would be annoyed ( alot) by having a kind of scheduale/reading plan. Usually the book I read reflects a emotive need of mine.

The Austen is great. I detest 100 Years of Solitude mainly because he gets credit for something Voltaire did with Candide well before his time and better writing!
Enjoy!
